Josh Widdicombe has revealed he was involved in an unexpected confrontation with a fellow passenger during a flight home from Greece after a dispute over an airline seat.
The comedian and new presenter of BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing said the incident began when he placed his foot on the edge of an empty seat while waiting to use the toilet on board the aircraft.
The 43-year-old said a woman sitting nearby challenged him, claiming the seat belonged to her husband, before the situation escalated when the man later confronted him.

Widdicombe described the unusual encounter on his Parenting Hell podcast, explaining that he believed the seat was unoccupied when he briefly rested his foot on it to tie his shoelace.
The comedian said he immediately apologised after being told the seat had been reserved by another passenger. However, he claimed the apology did not end the disagreement.
“Fine, I made a mistake,” Josh said while recalling the moment. He explained that he removed his foot and returned to the queue for the toilet, believing the issue had been resolved.
According to Widdicombe, the situation changed when the passenger’s husband returned from the toilet and walked past him in the aisle.
“He sits down, and then he goes past me and whacks me in the back as he goes past me,” Widdicombe said, describing the incident as a strange confrontation.

The comedian said the passenger then questioned whether he had placed his foot on the seat, despite the earlier apology.
Widdicombe claimed the man later asked for napkins to clean the seat after airline staff checked on the situation. The presenter said the passenger continued wiping the area for around an hour.
He added that a member of the cabin crew joked about the situation, saying: “There’s one on every flight, isn’t there?”
The incident occurred as Widdicombe prepares for his new role connected to Strictly Come Dancing, the BBC’s long-running dance competition. His appointment has brought renewed attention to the comedian, who previously became known for shows including The Last Leg.
